Onam Special… Puli Inji

Puli means Tamarind (chinch) & Inji (Ginger) 
Tangy, Spicy , Sweet & Sour kind of dish. It is also must item for the Kerala sadhya. It is a just a spoon is enough to make any meal extra flavorful...❤❤

मुझे जो दु:ख हुआ वह मेरे लिये भला ही हुआ है, जिस से मैं तेरी विधियों को सीख सकूं। 

  1. Ginger 1/2cup chopped
  2. Green chillies 3-4 chopped
  3. Red dry chilli 3-4
  4. Hing 1/2 tsp
  5. Toor dal(sambhar parippu ) 1tsp
  6. Urad dal 1tsp
  7. Mustard 1tsp
  8. Oil 4tsp
  9. Jaggery 50gms(a tbsp )
  10. Tamarind  (1 lemon size)
  11. Salt
  12. Chilli powder 3/4 tsp
  13. Oil 3tbsp
  14. Curry leaves


  • Soak the tamarind for 1/2 an hour in water or soak in hot water for less time and keep aside.
  •  fry the ginger separately and add keep aside. do not fry more than 1 min.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard.Add the toor dal,urad dal and saute till lightly browned.
  • Add the red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add the fry ginger,green chillies and saute for 5-6 minutes till lightly browned and crisp.
  • Add the chilli powder and salt.
  • Add the tamarind water and boil for 6-7 min.
  • In the meantime,soak the jaggery in a tbsp of water and drain the impurities.Put the jaggery water and boil again for 10-15 min.
  • Let the mixture thicken,it may take 20-30 minutes on medium flame.
  • Switch off flame,cool completely and then store in air tight container.



  • You can also temper at the end.
