Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe

Today’s in my kitchen…. Ganesh Chaturthi Special Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe which is also called as Golden Herb Recipe made with coconut, Jaggery & Brown  Rice flakes & Nuts . Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe is an authentic traditional Festival dish which is steam in Turmeric leaves.


This Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe steamed in   Turmeric or  Haldi  ( manjal)    Turmeric is  Most of us would have used t in the powder form, but turmeric leaves can also be used in Traditional Cooking . As a result, Aromatic, divine gujiya ..

Turmeric also use in medical purposes like cold , joint pain and also to glowing skin. Turmeric  and leaves also  used  as aromatic herbs in Indian, Thailan and Malaysian cooking.Today we used this golden leaf in our Festival Dessert Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe


Lets see the Step by step Pictorial  Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe

1/2cup freshly grated coconut

1 cup rice flour

4  turmeric leaves

1/2 cup Dark grated Jaggery

2 tbsp Brown rice flaks

1 tbsp Cashew

1 tbsp Sesame seed

1 tsp Dry Ginger Powder

1 tsp Cumin Seed

1 tsp Cardamom

1 small Banana

1 cup water

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)




First of all Wash the turmeric leaves and Keep aside.


Keep everything ready


Purify the Jaggery

Add grated jaggery and half 1/4 cup of water. let the simmer boil & cool. Strain.



For Stuffing

Heat a Pan, add ghee fry cashew, sesame seed and keep aside. In the same pan  add grated coconut, above jaggery syrup, crushed cardamom pods, Cumin, Dry ginger powder.. Stir for 2-3 minutes till grated coconut and jaggery gets mixed. Keep aside.



For  Gujiya or Karanji /Dumpling Dough

Boil the water. add the rice flour and salt  and mix well with a wooden spoon. kneed a smooth  dough with the the help of little ghee.



Keep a Idly stand filled with 1 cup water on low flame.



Place the turmeric leaf on a stand /plate.  you can use banana leaf, but you will missed aroma.

make rice ball spread rice flour dough with the help of warm water. place above coconut &  jaggery stuffing on the rice spread , Leave some space near the edges , this will help in sealing the gujiya or you can use karanji mould / sacha to give beautiful shape.


Place all Gujiya on Turmeric base stand/ plate.


Keep Gujiya / Karanji on Turmeric leaf . keep this plate on middle of the Preheated idly stand.


let them steam  12-15 min.



Steamed Gujiya Karanji Recipe is ready to serve as breakfast / evening snack or as ganesh chaturthi  Parsad.



You can spread rice dough on turmeric leaf, place stuffing and seal pack the leaf and steam as it is in idly stand to be more aromatic.

You can use banana leaf instead of turmeric leaf.

 stuffing ingredients can change as per your choice.
